This is a procedure by which a small piece of the kidney is surgically removed for lab testing. Biopsies are primarily used to test for cancer, but is also effective in detecting or confirming other forms of kidney disease. The biopsy can be done through minimally invasive methods, although sometimes a surgical biopsy may be needed to identify the right area for sampling.
