What is hip replacement surgery?

The surgery carried out to replace a worn-out or damaged hip joint is called Hip replacement surgery. During the surgery, a surgeon removes the damaged portions of the hip joint and replaces them with artificial joint (prosthesis) leading to pain relief and functional recovery of the hips.

How long does the Hip Replacement Surgery take?

The duration to complete a Total hip replacement surgery takes about one and a half hours. The patient will be transferred to a treatment room following surgery for a couple of hours as the anesthesia wears off. The blood pressure, heartbeat, alertness, level of pain or relaxation, and the need for treatment will be checked by medical personnel. The patient has to stay in the hospital for a day or two after completion of the surgery.

After the surgery, within 6 weeks most people will be able to resume their daily activities.
