The Department of Rheumatology at Manipal Hospitals is the pioneer in its field and is well known all over India. It provides diagnostic facilities and therapy for disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and gout and osteoarthritis. Critical auto-immune diseases such as lupus, scleroderma & dermatomyositis are also dealt with here. Immuno-modulatory drugs are used for chronic and recurring problems. Other treatments include immuno-suppressive therapy along with physical medicine and rehabilitation. The Department of Rheumatology works in conjunction with other departments such as Internal Medicine, Genetics &Orthopaedics to provide comprehensive treatment to the patients and help them recover from these debilitating diseases.
