Cardiac MRI is a non-invasive type of imaging that uses advanced technology to take very detailed photographs of the heart's anatomy, movement, and physiological activity. This technique will help physicians visualize the ventricles, chambers, valves, and blood flow through the heart without exposing patients to any radiation. At the Manipal Hospital International, all cardiac magnetic resonance imaging exams are performed using the latest and most advanced MRI devices combined with highly trained cardiac imaging specialists to provide our patients with the best possible care plan with confidence.
A cardiac MRI scan uses strong magnetic fields and radio waves to create detailed images of the heart. The MRI provides continuous video images of the heart and shows the movement of the heart muscle, blood flow pattern, presence of scarring or inflammation, and other types of damage to the heart.
The heart MRI scan provides the doctor with the ability to see a continuous image of the heart from different angles and view how well the heart works in a three-dimensional format; it also provides a unique opportunity for the physician to detect certain types of conditions that are not seen with other diagnostic procedures.
The cardiac MRI procedure is recommended when doctors need precise information about the heart structure or function that cannot be fully assessed with ECG, echocardiography, or CT scans. It is especially useful for understanding complex or unclear heart conditions.
Cardiac MRI includes different imaging techniques tailored to the clinical question. These variations allow doctors to focus on specific aspects of heart health.
Manipal Hospitals combines advanced imaging technology with specialist cardiac expertise to deliver accurate and patient-friendly cardiac MRI services. Every scan is carefully planned and interpreted to guide the best possible care.
A cardiac MRI may be advised when:
Although cardiac MRI is safe for most patients, some situations require special consideration.
During the scan, the patient lies comfortably on a table that moves into the MRI scanner. ECG leads are placed to synchronise imaging with the heartbeat. The machine takes images while the patient holds their breath for short periods.
There is no recovery time after a cardiac MRI. Patients can resume normal activities immediately unless advised otherwise. If contrast is used, drinking fluids afterwards helps clear it from the body.
Results are reviewed by specialists and shared with the treating doctor to guide further care.
Cardiac MRI is considered very safe. Some patients may feel mild discomfort from lying still or temporary warmth during scanning. Contrast reactions are rare and closely monitored. There is no exposure to ionising radiation.
The cost of a cardiac MRI depends on the type of scan, use of contrast, and clinical complexity. At Manipal Hospitals, cardiac MRI services are offered at costs that are significantly more affordable than those in many Western and Gulf countries, while maintaining international-quality standards.
Personalised estimates include consultation, scanning, and expert interpretation.
International patients receive complete assistance, including appointment coordination, visa support, travel planning, interpreter services, accommodation guidance, and post-scan follow-up to ensure a smooth and reassuring diagnostic experience.
